Gin & Tonic

The G&T truly is a drink that has stood the test of time. The exact history might be a bit uncertain but what we do know that gin was drunk for medicinal purposes from the 1600s and before that against malaria, and tonics were first marketed during the 1850s.

Tonic grew in popularity in the British colonies, especially in India, which became clear when Schweppes launched their first tonic in 1870. They branded it Indian Tonic Water, and since the wealthier people drank massive amounts of gin in Raj it has been accepted that the Gin and Tonic emerged here and was drunk in part to ward off malaria.

Even though this is not the reason most people drink it today, its popularity has lasted through the years. Maybe simply because it's one of the easiest and best mixed drinks!
